Rains, saturday breakfast, an early morning hike, fried food cravings – ain’t these enough to create a beautiful scene for the yummy bread rolls? Exactly how we cheated today, well – we did earn some bit of it after getting ourselves out of our beds to go for a lovely early morning hike today.
So here we go with these amazingly yum bread rolls!
Ingredients: (yields 5-6 pieces)
- 2 big boiled potatoes
- Oil
- Cumin seeds
- 1-1.5 chopped green chilies
- 1 tsp red chili
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- ½ tsp garam masala
- ¾ tsp dry mango powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- Salt to taste
- Bread slices
- Cilantro
- Bread crumbs
Procedure:
- In a pan, heat 1 tbsp oil and add cumin seeds
- When it starts spluttering, sautee garlic until golden brown and then add onion and green chilies
- Cook for 4-5 min and then add coarsely mashed fully-boiled potato
- Add all the spices to it
- Mix well and add chopped cilantro in it
- Let the filling mix cool down to room temperature
- Make oval balls of this potato mix
- Take bread pieces with corners chopped out
- Dip each slice into water
- Press the slice gently so the water squeezes out and the bread softens
- Put the filling inside and close the bread to form another oval shape
- If needed, gently sprinkle some bread crumbs on it and deep fry these on medium flame
- Serve with dips of choice – ideal ones are chilli sauce, tomato sauce, green mint chutney
Note: You can always tweak the filling to add some cheese or the spice or flavour of the potato filling in it!
